Practical briefing: managing import duties - suspensions and trade defence measures

The latest round of requests for EU tariff suspensions closed on 15 September 2026. Now is the time to prepare for the next one. A suspension removes all or part of the duty on raw materials, semi-finished goods or components that are not produced in sufficient quantities in the EU.
Anti-dumping and countervailing duties change constantly. A case moves through several stages: investigation, registration of imports, provisional duties, definitive duties and later reviews. Each stage calls for different action from importers. Safeguard measures follow a different path and often take the form of tariff quotas.
During this practical briefing, we will focus on what helps importers manage their duties and pay less. We will:
-
explain how autonomous tariff suspensions work and when a company should consider a request;
-
look at some stages of trade defence cases and where action by importers can affect the duty they pay;
-
explain why everyone who plans or budgets for import duties should follow these developments closely.
The session includes a live demonstration of Smart Taric AI, showing how to check whether a product benefits from a suspension or is subject to a trade defence measure. We will also demonstrate the News agent, which gathers news and sends you a daily update, so you can follow new investigations and duties as they are announced.
🎁 One attendee will be selected to receive 30 days of free access to Smart Taric AI and the News agent.
