US customs tariff news: July 2026

News in brief: USTR imposes Section 301 forced-labour tariffs on 60 economies, including the EU and UK, from 24 July 2026 - the EU rate is set net of the US MFN duty so that goods already at 10% or above take no additional duty, while the UK faces a flat 10%; a new Section 201 safeguard imposes a four-year tariff-rate quota on quartz surface products, with the EU and UK in scope from 15 August 2026; the US opens a Section 232 track on commercial aircraft, jet engines and parts - a finding of threat to national security, but no tariffs yet, relevant to the EU and UK aerospace supply chain; and, in actions not directly affecting EU or UK goods, the US imposes first-ever Section 338 tariffs on Canadian alcohol, dairy and motor vehicles, a 25% Section 301 tariff on Brazil, and announces reciprocal-trade deals with Jordan and Uzbekistan.
