Module 1

Customs function in business is the focus of the module 'Business understanding of customs'.

The lessons of this module will give you a better understanding of what customs mean for business. You will then learn how the customs function interacts with internal (e.g., Supply chain, Transportation, Finance, Legal, Manufacturing, R&D departments) and external (e.g., supplier, customs agent, freight forwarder, authorities) stakeholders to form the heart of the network that will ensure the smooth and compliant movement of goods across borders.

The module consists of four lessons:

2. What does it mean for businesses?
3. Mini case study 
4. Customs roles within businesses. In this lesson, a task is provided to research customs roles

After watching the videos and doing the task, please take the quiz and then finalise the module by doing the readings (see in Resources).

Outcome

At the end of the module, you should:

• Have a better understanding what customs means and what your role is as a customs practitioner within a business;
• Be more aware of the intricacies of trading across borders;
