Classification updates: HS2028, EU case law, and AI

Tariff classification of goods is subject to frequent changes, reflected in keywords such as: HS, Explanatory Notes, CN, classification regulations, opinions, conclusions, BTIs, case law, and so forth.

In this roundtable, we will focus on two of these: the recently published HS2028, and some of the latest judgements of the European Court of Justice.

As increasingly time-consuming tasks are delegated to technology, we will discuss how AI tools handle updates, and how CJEU case law is taken into account when the tool provides information to users.

Topics:

  • HS2028 - what is changing and how to prepare
  • Recent EU case law on classification
  • How AI handles the complexity of goods classification, and potential additional solutions to simplify and enhance customs compliance

About customs roundtables

Customs is a complex area and it’s difficult to stay up to date with all the latest developments.

Customs roundtables are designed for the customs community to come together and exchange views regarding various areas of customs. This can be either specific cases and questions or wider industry trends. It’s an excellent opportunity to have an open discussion on some of the most pressing customs issues.

We welcome customs experts and experts-to-be in all areas of customs (origin, valuation, special procedures etc) and from all backgrounds (legal, in-house, academic, consulting etc).

Register to the customs roundtables by signing up for a Membership Plan.
