Customs function in the organisation - a future-proof set up

Meet customs experts from around the world! Authors who contribute content to the CustomsClear platform are invited to meet in bi-monthly Authors’ Meetings and exchange views on a specific topic.
During the meetings, participants are invited to give 5-minute presentations on the topic. Discussions and questions are welcome at any time. After the meeting, an overview is published in the Customs Compliance & Risk Management journal.
Upcoming meeting
Geopolitical, technological, sustainability and numerous other developments, including the EU Customs Reform, have made it clear that the customs function - whether in-house or outsourced - must be approached strategically by managers. At the same time, customs professionals recognise the need to re-invent their role.
We are facing a major transformation and seek to understand what the customs function will look like in the future, what knowledge and skills will be required, how these can be acquired, and what the end result of this ‘re-invention’ should be.
This Authors’ Meeting aims to contribute to this reflection by offering expert insights.
The meeting will take place on 8 January 2026 at 15:00 CET.
